Trail may offer path over Mississippi River from Downtown Memphis to Arkansas

With a bicycle-pedestrian pathway across the Harahan Bridge as its centerpiece, a proposed $30 million project would link Main Street Mall in Downtown Memphis with Broadway Boulevard in West Memphis.

The project combines longstanding efforts to improve the Downtown mall and to establish a bicycling and walking route across the Mississippi River on the 96-year-old Harahan Bridge -- a railroad span that has, on both sides of the tracks, cantilevered structures that once carried motor vehicles. In addition, the initiative includes an extension of the path westward into West Memphis.
